Top 6 Lessons Learned from QC’s Online Makeup Courses

QC Makeup Academy Student Ambassador, Whitney Conn, shares the top lessons she has learned from QC’s Master Makeup Artistry course! Whitney is evolving into a skilled makeup artist and wants to ensure you start your makeup career on the right path!

With only one application away from completing my Master Makeup Artistry certification, I can tell you that everything that I have learned in this course is important to becoming a professional makeup artist. Here are the top lessons that I have learned in my training with QC Makeup Academy!

1. Sanitation Practices

Can you imagine going to a makeup artist with dirty brushes, dirty makeup, and a dirty work area? Proper sanitation practices are key to any successful and professional makeup artist. This is one of the first things I learned in my Master Makeup Artistry Course. Bacteria can easily grow in your sponges, makeup, and brushes, and if not cleaned properly, it can spread onto your clients’ faces!

2. Color Theory

Color theory is in every aspect of your makeup application. It is how you figure out what foundation color to use, what color to cover your client’s dark under eye circles, and what eyeshadow color will best coordinate with your client’s wardrobe choice. Learn it, research it, and know it, because this knowledge will be with you for the rest of your makeup career.

3. Makeup Business

Before starting my studies with QC, I did not have a clue as to how to start my own makeup business or how to market myself in the makeup industry. Thankfully, QC Makeup Academy has me covered. Their courses teach all the essential business skills I need to get myself known in the makeup world.

4. Stocking Your Makeup Kit

It is very important to know what items you should have in your professional makeup kit. With so many different skin types and skin concerns, you must be fully prepared to handle any situation that comes up. Say I have two different clients – one with dry skin and one with oily skin – I will not use the same products on both clients. For dry skin, I will need a foundation that has moisturizing quality so that it doesn’t dry out the skin more. For oily skin, I will need a powdered-based foundation to soak up the extra oil.

With that being said, QC has taught me how to properly stock my makeup kit with a variety of products so that I am able to give my clients the best makeup application.

5. Blending Skills

My blending skills is another top lesson I have learned from QC. Your blending skills will make a huge difference on how your makeup is viewed on a professional level. Blending is in almost every part of makeup application, and if it is done properly the colors will be smooth. For eye shadow blending, the colors should flow smoothly from one to the other with no harsh lines.

6. Makeup Lighting

Depending on where you are when applying makeup, the lighting may vary from when the client leaves your chair. For instance, if you are doing makeup for a stage show, the lighting in the dressing rooms may not be the same lighting that is onstage. Through QC, I learned that it is important to always have a portable LED light with me in case I do not have proper lighting to work with. This could make the help avoid having your makeup applications being too light for stage, or too dark for TV and movies.

While this is only the beginning of my journey in makeup artistry, the foundation that QC has provided me will follow me for the rest of my career. With the proper foundation, everything else you learn will stem off of that. This is why I chose QC Makeup Academy, and believe that they are providing proper training to students so that they can exceed.

They say that it isn’t always about the destination. It is about the journey of how you got there, and I can truly say that this journey has been amazing!
